The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum fuer Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. DLR) is the german national establishment for aeronautics and space. The key aspects of the DLR research and development activities are residing in the fields of aeronautics, space technology, transportation and energy. Within these areas DLR joint national and international cooperative ventures.
The DLR in general has considerable experience in aerodynamic design, numerical and experimental simulation, analysis methods and testing in large facilities as well as flight testing. In addition, the German Aerospace Centre owns Europe’s biggest research aircraft fleet. The newest members of the aircraft family are the Gulfstream G550 HALO (High Altitude and Long Range Research Aircraft) for high altitude atmospheric research flights and one Airbus A320 ATRA (Advanced Technology Research Aircraft) used for a wide range of flight test applications.

AIRBUS Operation designs and manufactures aircraft, aircraft parts, systems, equipment and derivative products, and also provides services in the field of aeronautics. About 17 600 employees are working in AIRBUS Operation and 57 000 for all AIRBUS. Regarding research activities the self-funding R&D amounts in 2003 to round Euros 0.8 billion. AIRBUS Operation Engineering is operated in one major design office in Toulouse. AIRBUS Operation Manufacturing is structured into manufacturing units where Airbus aircraft are designed, built, assembled and tested.
Avia was founded in 1919 and produced aircraft until 1960, aircraft engines until 1988 and propellers ever since the company's foundation.
The company Avia-Hamilton Standard Aviation Ltd. was founded in 1992, as a joint venture with foreign majority capital investment, created by joint forces of the important aviation firms. On the Czech part that were Avia. a. s., Walter a. s. and Aeronautical Research and Test Institute a. s. and on the foreign part the world-wide known producer of aircraft propellers and other major components - company UTC Hamilton Standard Division.
Avia Propeller has 42 employees now and is able to develop and produce propellers and propellers governors for piston engines (up to 600 HP) and turbine engines (up to 1800HP). Avia Propeller is producing constant speed propellers and has two, three, four and five blade propellers in production.

At Cranfield University, the School of Engineering (SoE) is dedicated to carrying out focused fundamental research and applying it to meet the needs of society and industry. SoE is able to offer flight test facilities through a Bulldog and Jetstream 31 aircraft. It can also offer wind tunnel facilities / instrumentation with 8 wind tunnels ranging from an atmospheric boundary layer tunnel to a high speed blow down tunnels and dedicated optics labs which can be used to test and develop an optical instrumentation ranging from fibre optic sensors to high power laser systems.
EVEKTOR, spol. s r. o. (Ltd.) is a design and engineering organisation focused on the aeronautical and automotive industry. EVEKTOR provides complete development of the products including prototype production and its testing. Its activities range from design of single parts through automotive design to the design of airplanes. EVEKTOR is a holder of Design Organization Approval (DOA) according to EASA Part 21, Subpart J. The company currently employs about 180 employees.
EVEKTOR has much experience using advanced design techniques and integrated design systems including virtual aircraft prototyping/simulations and concurrent engineering approaches and advance methods to facilitate remote team collaboration and knowledge management. In the process of development company uses 3D CAD systems including CATIA V5, Pro/Engineer and others. For stress analysis EVEKTOR uses method of finite elements (pre-processing in systems ANSA, FEMAP, PATRAN, ANSYS, HyperWorks/HyperMesh), for linear and non-linear analysis systems MSC/NASTRAN, ANSYS, MARC, for optimization tasks HyperWorks/Optistruct system. For aerodynamic analyses CFD codes Fluent and OpenFOAM (together with ANSA, T-GRID and EnSight for pre- and post-processing) are used. Moreover in-house codes for airplane load, performance, control and stability analyses were developed and used.
The Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) was founded in 1930 in Moscow at the very beginning of the worldwide power engineering development and was widened and enlarged with the discovering of new energy sources, solving new scientific and technological problems, implementing of new methods of energy generating, distributing and consuming. MPEI is of the same age as Russian Power Engineering.
MPEI now is the largest Russian Power Engineering University and scientific centre, one of the main universities in Russia in the field of Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computers Science. The MPEI has the official status of Technical University and is a Member of the International Association of Universities. In accordance with official rating of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation the MPEI holds one of the leading places in the list of all technical universities of Russia. MPEI has two branches in Russia, at the cities of Smolensk and Voljskiy.
NLR independently renders services to government departments and international agencies, aerospace industries and aircraft and spacecraft operators. NLR is a non-profit organisation, one of the Large Technological Institutes of the Netherlands. About 75 per cent of NLR's activities consist of research and development under contract. For its basic research programme and for the development of specialised research equipment, NLR receives government subsidies.
NLR operates two research aircraft, a Fairchild Metro II and a Cessna Citation II. The Fairchild Metro II is a twin turboprop aircraft, modified for aerospace research. The aircraft is equipped with all required civil communication, navigation and avionics systems, GPS, and a Flight Director/Autopilot with CAT II automatic approach capability. The twinjet aircraft Cessna Citation II is the other research aircraft operated by NLR. It is owned and operated jointly with the Delft University of Technology, Faculty of Aerospace Engineering. Originally designed for executive travel, this Citation has been extensively modified by NLR and Delft University of Technology to serve as a versatile airborne research platform.
ONERA is the French national aerospace research centre. It is a public research establishment, with eight major facilities in France and about 2,000 employees, including 1,500 scientists, engineers and technicians. ONERA is organised in 16 scientific departments, grouped in four branches - Fluid Mechanics and Energetics, Physics, Materials and Structures, Information Processing and Systems.
The Theoretical and Applied Optics Department is one of the largest European research centres in defence optronics with a staff of 125 research engineers, 26 doctoral and post doctoral students and 15 technicians. Inside the Theoretical and Applied Optics Department, the Laser Source and LIDAR System Unit has experience with coherent LIDAR using fibered 1.5 µm technology. The Laser Source and LIDAR System unit former works with LIDAR include applications such wake vortex, true airspeed and vibrations measurements.
Piaggio Aero Industries S.p.A. is one of the world’s oldest aircraft manufacturers being involved in aircraft construction since 1915. The company main businesses are aeroplane design and manufacturing, engine parts manufacturing, aero-structures and aircraft maintenance. Piaggio has a workforce of 1500 employees, who are based mainly in two plants: Genoa and Finale Ligure. In addition, Piaggio has an engineering unit of about 40 employees in Naples as well as a commercial and service facility in the USA. The Finale Ligure plant accommodates the technical department main body with the facilities for static test, the production of parts for aircraft and engines and small structural sub assembly. In the Genoa plant the final assembly line, the flight test unit and the production flight line including the maintenance facilities are located.
Piaggio’s two main products are the P180 business turboprop and the P166 light utility turboprop aircraft. The two aircraft share the pusher configuration but whereas the P166 is a conventional aircraft, the P180 is a three lifting surfaces configuration with an extended natural laminar flow structure. The aircraft is characterised by a high wing loading and high aspect ratio wing together with performance close to those of a turbofan aircraft of the same size.
